If you haven't downloaded and played around with it, do. I've been having fun poking around with it, seeing what it can pinpoint. The way it scrolls so fluently around the earth is incredible, it's really a piece of work.

school

It's starting again, which means good and bad for me, I guess. It's basically just an end of the last summer I can do workstudy. The last summer before another year at GFU, the last summer for a lot of junk, I guess. Well anyway, don't want to get too sentimental on ya, wiping the tears off the keyboard now.

This year promises to be a good one. Not too many credits, and a few sweet CS classes to boot. Hopefully I'll be interested enough to learn something, but maybe not. Meh, who knows.

I get to teach a class to middle and high schoolers on web based programming. Maybe that'll get me interested in teaching as a career, perhaps not. Regardless, I'm excited to make some kind of use of my knowledge other than working for the great media mogle at Fox.

I guess the best song to describe me atm is best sung by the Beatles:

Life continues, starts new things, ends old things, does small twists and bounds, but nothing huge rocks my boat. I steadily stay on course, even if I have no clue what that course may be.

Perhaps I'll write more soon when it's not 4 in the morning, but probably not.

So I'm sitting here at work, being very unproductive, and decided that it might not be too bad an idea to blog something, you know, so that I can act like I'm cool. It's been stinking hot here, though we can at least get some fans going through our place, so I haven't died yet. Wheather like this just makes me want to chop off my hair and shave, though, sheer myself for summer or something like that. That's only a fleeting moment though...

I've been working on the North Valley Friends Church website, which is awesome to see it start to get up and running. I can show you the holder website, but if I showed you the uber secret devloper side I'd have to kill you, I mean, preach at you or something.

I've been hooked back on EQ for awhile now, I know I know shame on me, but I think I said that earlier. I've changed guilds to Gathered Might, which if you don't know anything about Everquest or my server in general, is a higher level guild that is a lot more together, it's kind of like being a 4th grader in high school. ;) I'm enjoying meself though, and am pretty sure it will stay that way for a bit.

Wow, this has been some time since I've posted, a personal best, methinks.

Well that changed quick enough I guess, probably due to my lazy nature, etc. Regardless, look for more improvements to come to Nerdosity (specifically site structure and more stylesheets I have the look now) and Pete's Personal Ponderings (perhaps an individualized look and feel?) soon.

What __have__ I been up to you say?

Well... school ended recently (yay) and I was able to go to Russia on Junior's Abroad, which in and of itself was worth the crappiness of last semester. One of the old-adult-type-peoples on our trip put together an online journal, which I think pretty accurately describes what went on in Russia. I might blog more opinions on this later, but for now I'll just say that it was an incredible experience that I won't be likely to forget anytime soon.

Sun announced that Java 1.5 is now beta, which is about time that they started making some useful improvements to it.

Of the cooler things in it are generics, automatic type conversion, and type-checked enumerated types. In my opinion this is a step in the right direction for Sun, in making their product more usable for the average programmer.

My First Post

Yes ladies and gentlepeople, I do in fact rule, and as this has been established by many thus far, I erected (stop giggling now please) this monument as a something to my greatness. If I had anything of use to say, I would gladly say it, but as I don't, you will just have to wait it out :)

One thing I did notice was this, the Open Source Convention, which is hosted by O'Reilly, will be in Portland this year. I thought the workshops looked pretty interesting, especially the PHP and Python workshops.

Anyway, check back here if you want to hear my thoughts and musings, I will try to keep it updated, but no promises... :)

Old Updates Section

You will note that I had a section on my old index page called "updates from the webmaster (me)" which I kept people updated on what I was doing to the site, and to myself. I have changed that format some, since I could see the limitation of that very easily.

Also, wowed by my fellow geeks and nerds, and feeling a tad-bit inferior, I decided that a blog might enhance my nerididity, coolness factor, and personal appeal. Because of this, all of the old webmaster sections will now be held in here, and future updates released through my blog and the this site section of my pages.

The old updates are preserved below for posterity's sake...

1-30-04 - Wow, I do believe I just outdid myself. Last post here I was
talking about how I hadn't done anything either. Oh well, C'est la vie. Anyway
I actually have done some work, mostly in the CSS and design aspects of the site.

my rant on the future of web design.

12-13-03 - Boy, I sure haven't made any updates recently, this sucketh.
That's mostly because I've been working my butt off programming. You can check
out either my Not-Raquetball Ladder which I made as part
of a class testing the interaction of client-server systems over the internet,
or my Monopoly game as part of my software engineering
class which deals with the design and the lifecycle of software.

10/15/03 - Jon Dodson, always odd and sometimes interesting, put up a game on his website Legend of the Green Dragon. This game is a great open source rip-off of Legend of the Red Dragon, and it's highly fun to play. Go check it out, or else...

10/2/03 - Be sure to check out the My Family section for the ins and outs of my wonderful co-familial units.

9/23/03 - I added a section which will spit out a dynamic Unix Fortune. Be sure to waste many an hour playing with it.
